How to Step Up your Workout Program

July 6, 2009

Are you getting bored with your workout? Do you need to boost up your exercise regimen and burn calories? Are you tired of doing squats and lunges? Do you have knee problems that make doing squats and lunges very painful? An alternative exercise that targets the same muscles, such as glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, used in the squat and lunge and gets the heart pumping is STEP UP with dumbbells.

1. Stand with a dumbbell in each hand hanging at your side.

2. Find a secure step or bench that comes approximately knee high.

3. Place your foot on the bench.

4. Step up on the bench by extending your hip and knee, bringing your second leg to the top of the bench.

5. Step down with the second leg, flexing the hip and knee.

6. Return to original standing position by placing your first foot back on the floor.

7. Repeat first step again. You can perform this exercise by alternating your first step leg or by performing repetitive
steps with the same leg until you have completed 15 repetitions.
