It’s a Matter of Trust
July 10, 2009
My son and I had a conversation once that proved to be a learning lesson for me. It went like this:
“But Mom that’s not the right way”
“Yes it is”
“I am trying to tell, I mean, show you I can do it this way.”
“Do it like I told you.”
“But why Mom?
“Because I said so and you need to trust me. I would never tell you anything wrong, at least not on purpose. Trust me and do as I tell you to do.”
The conversation ended after that and though my son did not like not having it his way he discovered through the process my instructions were best.
The next day as I drove down the road on the way to the store that conversation came to mind. The Holy Spirit spoke to me, “that’s just what I want you to do, trust me.” I pulled over and sat thinking of the steps I must take in trusting God to receive His promises.
Here are the six steps that I thought of:
1. Find scriptures that promise what you need
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” (1 John 5:14-15)
2. In faith claim the promises you need
“Ask, and it will be given to you; For everyone who asks receives” (Mat 7:7-11)
3. Trust God and believe that He has given you what you asked for
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them”. (Mark 11:24)
Trust in Him at all times, (Psa 62:8)
4. Be bold and confess what you are believing and claim it in faith
“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,” (2 Cor 4:13)
5. Take action in faith
“Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:17)
6. Continue believing and confessing in faith despite the circumstances
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” (Heb 10:23)
