Jumping Squats

Want to get your legs more toned. Well there is no specific exercise that can accomplish the lean physique you desire, but there is an exercise that will set you on your way. In order to lean out a particular muscle group, such as your legs, or your abdominals, you must first remove the layer of fat lying over top of the muscle. Just going to the gym in hopes to only lift weights will not do the trick and vice versa doing hours of cardio may reduce your weight but you still need to build lean muscle mass. With this being said it takes two: cardio and weight training to achieve the results you imagine your body looking like. My goal with providing you with the jumping squat exercise is to combine your muscle building with your cardio routine. The first part of this exercise jumping is a great way to burn calories and work on your cardio training, the second part the squat builds muscle in all the right areas: butt, quads, hamstrings, and calves. This is also a great exercise to incorporate when you are short on time or need a boost to get you over your training plateau.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Standing with feet just wider than shoulder width apart, hands out in front of your chest, knees slightly bent, slowly lower your butt towards the ground. Your feet should not come over your toes. If it does then you are not sticking your butt out far enough and putting extra strain on your knees.

Step 2: Once you have lowered as far as you can trying to make your hamstrings parallel to the floor, spring up jumping off the ground. When landing bend your knees and lower your butt back towards the floor going back into the squatting position.

You can perform this exercise for repetitions and sets or you can do time intervals, either way push yourself to work up a sweat.
